Tamagotchi Comes Back to Your Pocket — on Android

Tamagotchi-app
For anyone nostalgic for the 90s virtual pet craze, you can now carry your Tamagotchi in your pocket once again, with a free app released Thursday for Android.

The Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. App recreates the experience of caring for and feeding your own pocket creature. The apps release marks the brands re-expansion to North America, after it was a powerhouse in the late 1990s.
The Tamagotchi app recreates the classic experience of owning a virtual pet in its Toy Mode, which replicates the classic egg keychain design best known by fans on the phones screen. It features the three familiar buttons to navigate the menus.

Players can get into "App Mode" by swiping with two fingers, which brings the Tamagotchi into full color on the screen. Youll be able to access all the menu functions with touch controls from there. Youll recognize the actions to feed, vaccinate, poke and clean up after your pet. You can also check its weight, happiness and discipline.

A new feature youll find: being able to play Rock Paper Scissors with your Tamagotchi. (Letting it win will make your pet happier.)

You can also take photos and share them on Facebook directly from the app.
Tamagotchi was released by Namco Bandai in 1997, and more than 79 million of the hard-shelled electronic toys have been sold since. The brand still has a huge presence in Japan, with a popular cartoon tie-in just renewed for a sixth season. Sync Beatz Entertainment acquired the license from Namco Bandai for this app and future products, and partnered with the company on its creation.

The apps expected audience, says Sync Beatz CMO Shin Ueno, are 22- to 29-year-olds who carried their Tamagotchis to school — and then had them confiscated in class in the late 90s.
The app is only available through Google Play now but will come to iOS devices soon, Ueno says.
Do you have fond memories of your Tamagotchi? Share them in the comments below.

Perform Handwritten Mathematical Calculations on your iPhone with MyScript Calculator

Ever wished you could use your iPhone or iPad to do advanced calculations just as you might on a piece of paper, but have the device do the calculations for you instead? If so then check out MyScript Calculator, a free iOS app which can perform all of this in a new way right on the device using your handwriting.

Rather than tapping on different digits on your calculator app, you can now just write the equation you want to solve and leave the rest to MyScript Calculator. It will recognize the text on the screen and will display the result within seconds.

The application supports many different mathematical operations (e.g. basic operations such as powers, exponentials, brackets, trigonometric ratios, logarithms, as well as advanced functions such as trigonometric ratios, long calculations and more.)

Usage

Using the application is pretty simple and straightforward. Once installed, just launch the app and you will be presented with a simple drawing board like screen where you can write the equation you want MyScript Calculator to solve. Note that you may come across errors if you are not writing the numbers clearly. Also note that it will keep on performing calculations to the existing equation until and unless you clear the board using the delete button.
myScriptCalculator 7
In case you write a wrong equation, you can erase that part and re-enter the values. If it doesn’t recognize your equation, it will show display a question mark to prompt you to rewrite. The result can later be emailed to any recipient, shared on Twitter or copied to notes or any other application. If you want, you can also customize the number of decimals, show deg/rad and other details.

In Conclusion

MyScript Calculator is a very handy calculator application that allows users to perform calculations using handwriting. It may not be for everyone, but those who need it will love the app.
Although writing long expressions on your iPhone may at times be problematic, the app works very well . The usability of the app is best on the iPad because of a larger display. It is not perfect when recognizing the text but it does an admirable job.

How To Play YouTube Videos In The Background On iOS 7

Some might remember a time when YouTube was an built-in app on iOS devices – you could play YouTube videos in the background, thereby allowing you to use other apps (or turn the screen off) while still being able to listen to the audio of the YouTube clips.
YouTube Background
Then iOS 6 came along and YouTube was removed and became an app in the iTunes App Store – as a result, the background playback feature was also removed. On iOS 7, however, there is actually a simple workaround, and that’s exactly what we’ll be showing you in this quick tutorial today.

Play YouTube In The Background On iOS 7

Instead of using the YouTube app, use Safari and navigate to any YouTube clip and hit the Play button.
Safari YouTube
Now, if you want to use other apps while having the YouTube video play in the background, just tap on the Home button to go to your homescreen.
When you’re on your homescreen, swipe up to launch the Control Center and tap on the Play/Pause button. You’ll now be able to listen to the audio of that YouTube video you selected earlier and use other apps at the same time.
YouTube Control
You can also tap on your device’s power button to turn off the screen and still listen to the audio of that YouTube clip.

4 ways to right click on a Mac trackpad

How to right click on a Mac trackpad Mac tip: 4 ways to right click on a Mac trackpadNicole writes: In your article about changing a default program you say, “The first step is to right-click a PDF on your desktop.” But how do I right-click by tapping the trackpad of my MacBook Pro?
Hi Nicole! Yep, it’s a little weird that Mac users are constantly being asked to right-click (or “secondary” click) when their trackpads don’t have actual right-click buttons.
Never fear, though: there are actually several different ways to right-click on the MacBook’s trackpad, which (nowadays, at least) is essentially one big button.
For starters, you can…

Method No. 1:

Press and hold the CONTROL key, then click, or…

Method No. 2:

Click the trackpad with two fingertips at once instead of just one.

There are, in fact, a few different ways to right-click on a Mac trackpad.
That’s a good start—but what if you want more ways to right-click?
No problem, provided you’re willing to take a few extra steps first.
Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen, select System Preferences, click the Trackpad icon, then make sure the “Point & Click” tab at the top of the window is selected.
Now, see the “Secondary click” heading? Click the “Click or tap with two fingers” setting to reveal…

How to Manually Configure Your Email Account on Your Android Phone

Many people who have Android phones wish to access their emails at any time while on the go. However, manually configuring an email account is often tricky. This article will give you a step by step guide on how to manually configure your email account on your Android phone.

The hardest part of configuring your email account manually is knowing what information you need to enter. Once you have the information, configuring the rest of your account is very easy! Therefore, before we begin, let’s figure out what information we need!

Email address: the email address for the account that you are trying to set up

Password: the password for the email address that you are setting up
Server namemail.YourDomain.com (ex: mail.Arvixe.com) If mail.YourDomain.com doesn’t work, you will find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

Incoming and Outgoing Server Ports: For the incoming server, this may be 143. For the outgoing server, this may be 25. If port 143 or 25 does not work, you can easily find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

Now that we have the information ready, let’s set up the email account on your Android phone!
1) Go to Settings

2) Tap on Accounts

3) Then select Add Account

4) Choose Email

5) Enter the email address you are adding and the password

6) Uncheck the Automatically configure account box

7) Tap Next

8 ) Select General Settings

9) For Account name, enter the desired name for this account. For Real name, enter your real name. For Email address, enter your email address.

10) Select OK

11) Select Incoming Server

12) Tap where it says POP mail server and select IMAP mail server

13) Enter your connection details. For Server, enter your domain’s mail server. Most of the time, it is mail.YourDomain.com (ex: mail.Arvixe.com). If mail.YourDomain.com doesn’t work, you will find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts. For Username, enter your email address. For Password, enter the correct password for the email address.

14) Tap Advanced settings

15) Make sure Use secure connection and Verify Certificate are unchecked

16) For Port, enter 143. If port 143 does not work, you can easily find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

17) Tap OK

18 ) Tap OK again

19) Select Outgoing Server

20) Enter your connection details. For SMTP server, enter your domain’s mail server. Most of the time, it is mail.YourDomain.com (ex: mail.Arvixe.com). If mail.YourDomain.com doesn’t work, you will find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts. For Username, enter your email address. For Password, enter the correct password for the email address.

21) Tap Advanced settings

22) Make sure Use secure connection and Verify Certificate are unchecked

23) For Port, enter 25. If port 25 does not work, you can easily find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

24) Tap OK

25) Tap OK

26) Tap OK one more time to finish configuring your email account.

You will now see your email account listed.

Note:
With the current settings in this tutorial, any emails that you send or receive will not be secure. This means that everything sent or received can be intercepted as clear text. This is due to the certificate naming conflict between your mail account and your domain. Because of the conflict, the phone would display an error and show a connection failure. However, when we chose to deselect the certificate validation in the settings, we were able to bypass this problem.
If you encounter an error, please double check that your information is entered properly, or that your server name and ports are correct. If you continue experiencing difficulties manually configuring your email account, feel free to leave a comment and ask for help!
This concludes how to manually configure your email account on your Android phone

How To Set iPhone On Silent Mode Except For Selected Group

There are times we find ourselves in situations that we need to keep our phone in Silent Mode, for example in a meeting, a seminar or an important event. But there are calls that cannot be missed: the call to get to the hospital because your wife is in labor, the call from your kids who are studying in a different time zone or any calls from Mom.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could keep your iPhone on silent but have it ring only for selected individuals or a special group?

Set IPhone On Silent Mode Except For Selected Group Or People
You can set this up with iOS6, under the Do Not Disturb feature. You will first need to create a group of people who can get to you regardless of your phone being on Silent Mode. Here’s how.

1. Create a Group in Contacts

To allow calls from only selected groups, first you need to create a group in your contact book. The group will consist of only the contacts that you want to allow calls from. For now, the easiest way to create a group is to create it on iCloud.
To start, browse over to iCloud and click on ‘Contacts’.
icloud select contacts

On the top part of your contact book you’ll notice a red ribbon. Click on it.

click red ribbon

You will see your contacts on the right hand side and your groups on the left side. Click on the ‘+’ symbol at the bottom of the left page to create a group.

create a group

Name the group. In this example, we will use ‘Family’. After naming it click back to the ‘All contacts’ page.

name the group

To add contacts into your group, just select the contacts (press Ctrl for multiple selections) and drag it into the group you just created.

drag and drop contact

You can click on ‘Family’ group just to double check if all of your contacts are already in the group.

check if all contacts in

2. Customize Notifications Settings

Now on your iPhone, go to your Contact book and refresh it, just to ensure that your newly created group is in your iPhone.

check if groups sync in iphone

Then, tap on Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb.

access dnd

On the ‘Do Not Disturb’ page, tap on ‘Allow Calls From’ and choose the group you want notifications to come in for, regardless of the Silent Mode being on.
Note that you can only set to allow calls from only one group. That means if you have two groups that you want to let ring even in silent mode, you will have to pick only one, or group both of them together.

select who to allows calls from

There is actually another alternative. You can put individual contacts under the ‘Favorites’ category, simply tap on the contact and select ‘Add to Favorites’. Then set ‘Allow Calls From’ to ‘Favorites’.

3. Activate ‘Do Not Disturb’

To activate this mode, go to the ‘Settings’ page, and turn ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature ON. Your phone goes straight into Silent Mode and will only allow the group you’ve selected to get through to you.
