For anyone nostalgic for the 90s virtual pet craze, you can now carry your Tamagotchi in your pocket once again, with a free app released Thursday for Android.

The Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. App recreates the experience of caring for and feeding your own pocket creature. The apps release marks the brands re-expansion to North America, after it was a powerhouse in the late 1990s.
The Tamagotchi app recreates the classic experience of owning a virtual pet in its Toy Mode, which replicates the classic egg keychain design best known by fans on the phones screen. It features the three familiar buttons to navigate the menus.

Players can get into "App Mode" by swiping with two fingers, which brings the Tamagotchi into full color on the screen. Youll be able to access all the menu functions with touch controls from there. Youll recognize the actions to feed, vaccinate, poke and clean up after your pet. You can also check its weight, happiness and discipline.

A new feature youll find: being able to play Rock Paper Scissors with your Tamagotchi. (Letting it win will make your pet happier.)

You can also take photos and share them on Facebook directly from the app.
Tamagotchi was released by Namco Bandai in 1997, and more than 79 million of the hard-shelled electronic toys have been sold since. The brand still has a huge presence in Japan, with a popular cartoon tie-in just renewed for a sixth season. Sync Beatz Entertainment acquired the license from Namco Bandai for this app and future products, and partnered with the company on its creation.

The apps expected audience, says Sync Beatz CMO Shin Ueno, are 22- to 29-year-olds who carried their Tamagotchis to school — and then had them confiscated in class in the late 90s.
The app is only available through Google Play now but will come to iOS devices soon, Ueno says.

Usage

Note that you may come across errors if you are not writing the numbers clearly. Also note that it will keep on performing calculations to the existing equation until and unless you clear the board using the delete button.

In case you write a wrong equation, you can erase that part and re-enter the values. If it doesn’t recognize your equation, it will show display a question mark to prompt you to rewrite. The result can later be emailed to any recipient, shared on Twitter or copied to notes or any other application. If you want, you can also customize the number of decimals, show deg/rad and other details.

I have read some very thought-provoking posts and associated commentary over the past couple of weeks focusing on how particular educators use social media.  What I have found interesting is the powerful opinions as to how one should use social media.  I think it is great that so many people have focused opinions on what social media should, could, or should not be with a considerable emphasis on specific dos and donts.  These specific methods and techniques work for them and it is important that all of us have some sense as to the why and how when it comes to our own social media use.  It is these opinions that always force me to reflect on my own use, objectives, and goals.

To make things clear there is no guidebook out there that educators must abide by when it comes to using social media.   Social media is like the "Wild West" in that there are no overbearing rules, which is why I love it so much.  I can be brief if I want to.  I can comment on a post or tweet if I want to.  I can share something if and when I want to.  I can follow or unfollow whoever I want at any time.  I can recommend educators to follow if I want to.  Heck, I can post pictures of my kids if I want to.  The only firm rule I would encourage all educators to follow is to use common sense when posting to the Internet and always remember your role as an educator in the community you serve. Everything else is basically up to you and your specific preferences.

This has led me to think about how I use a myriad of social media tools with Twitter being my main go to resource.  To put it simply here is how I use social media as an educational administrator and learner:

• Acquire, share, and curate resources
• Discussion forum and engage in conversations of professional interest
• Elicit feedback on ideas and initiatives I launch at my school
• Support
• Ask questions and receive answers
• Track conferences
• Digital newspaper
• Connect with practitioners as well as experts in the field of education
• Build, cultivate,and interact with a Personal Learning Community (PLN) to grow professionally and do what I do better
• Promote my work and the work of others
• Share the great things my students and teachers are doing
• Public relations
• Enhance communications

Is there a right or wrong way to use social media? I personally dont think so.  The beauty and power of social media is that it is adaptable to fit our particular needs and goals at a given time.  As our goals and needs change our use of social media will evolve.  My point here is that any way an educator decides to use social media is the right way. What are your thoughts on this? Should there be specific rules or guidelines for educators to follow in online spaces?

Here’s a question for you: When you search on Google, are you also signed in to Google? If so, there’s a good chance Google is saving a so-called “Web History” of each and every one of your searches, stretching back for months or even years.
I checked my own Google account and found that Google has saved nearly 30,000 of my prior searches, plus a record of the links I clicked based on those search results, stretching as far back as 2006.

Your Web History contains a comprehensive list or all your Google searches, potentially stretching back years—and yes, you can delete some or all of your searches.

Believe it or not, I can tell you that on December 29, 2007 at exactly 4:51 p.m., I did a Google search on “new years smith street brooklyn”—probably because I was hunting for a good place to spend New Year’s Eve.
In addition to the enormous list of searches, your Web History also boasts a color-coded calendar that shows which days of the week you’re doing the most searching.
And since your Google Web History is (of course) itself searchable, it makes for a handy (if, perhaps, a bit unsettling) way to find an interesting web page that’s since slipped your mind.
Now, don’t like the idea of Google saving your searches? Well, good news and bad news.
Good news first: not only can you stop Google from saving your searches in your Web History, you can also delete your Web History selectively or entirely.
The bad news? Zapping your Google web history doesn’t wipe out every last trace of your past Google searches.
Indeed, Google (like many other search engines) may share the search and usage data stored on its servers with various “partners,” advertisers, or even law enforcement. Food for thought, particularly in light of the recent PRISM controversy.

You can stop Google from saving searches in your Web History, but that doesn’t mean Google isn’t still keeping records of your search activity.

So, ready to check out your Web History? Let’s get started…

• Sign in to your Google account, click your user icon in the top-right corner of the page, click Account, then scroll all the way down and click the “Manage your web history” link. You can also just click this link: history.google.com.
• You should now be looking at your personal Web History as Google sees it—interesting stuff, actually. You can browse your history using the navigation links to the left (anything from “Web” and “Images” to “Shopping” and “Maps), or by clicking the calendar on the right. The days on the calendar are color-coded based on your search activity, with the darker-blue dates representing the days you searched the most often.
• See anything in your Web History that you’d like to delete? If so, click the checkbox next to the item and click the “Remove items” button.
• Want to delete everything in your Web History? Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the page, select Settings, then click the “delete all” link.
• Want Google to stop tracking your searches in your Web History? Go back to the Settings page, then click the “Turn off” button. (Yes, you can always come back later and turn your web history back on.)

Wondering why your new Windows 8 PC is taking so long to start up in the morning? There’s a good chance that one of your installed programs is to blame.
The new Windows 8 Task Manager has a nifty feature that not only lists all the programs that launch when your system starts up, but also rates the “impact” they have on your PC’s startup speed.
Now, some “high” startup-impact programs will probably be ones that your system can’t live without—like, for instance, the “Rundll32″ application, an essential Windows app that helps other Windows program access shared “libraries” of computer code.
Others, however, may be programs that you forgot you even installed—and now they’re sitting on your PC, launching themselves whenever you hit the “power” button and gobbling up precious system resources.
So, ready to put a leash on programs that are slowing your system right out of the gate?

Not sure what a specific startup program does? Right-click its name to get more details.

Here’s how…

• To launch the Task Manager, just start typing “Task Manager” from the Windows 8 Start screen; you should see the Task Manager sitting at the very top of your search results. If you’re already in the “classic” Windows desktop, just press and hold CONTROL + ALT + DELETE and select Task Manager from the menu.
• If it isn’t already, toggle the “More details” setting at the bottom of the Task Manager window to reveal a series of tabs at the top of the windows, then click the “Startup” tab.
• You should now see a list of all the programs and processes that launch when your PC starts up. Click the “Startup impact” heading to sort the list from “High” startup impact to “Low.”
• Now, take a look at the programs that are having the greatest “impact” to your system’s startup time. See any you don’t need? Select the slowpoke and click the “Disable” button to keep it from launching itself when your PC starts up. (I, for example, spotted Facebook’s “Messenger” app—which I never use—near the top of the list. Yep, it’s now disabled.)
• Not sure what a particular startup program is for? Right-click its name and select “Open file location” to find out where the app sits on your hard drive; you can also “Search online” for more information or inspect the program’s “Properties.”
• Change your mind about preventing a program from starting when you power-on your PC? Just open the Task Manager, select its name under the Startup tab, then click then Enable button.

Many people who have Android phones wish to access their emails at any time while on the go. However, manually configuring an email account is often tricky. This article will give you a step by step guide on how to manually configure your email account on your Android phone.

The hardest part of configuring your email account manually is knowing what information you need to enter. Once you have the information, configuring the rest of your account is very easy! Therefore, before we begin, let’s figure out what information we need!

Email address: the email address for the account that you are trying to set up

Password: the password for the email address that you are setting up
Server name: mail.YourDomain.com (ex: mail.Arvixe.com) If mail.YourDomain.com doesn’t work, you will find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

Incoming and Outgoing Server Ports: For the incoming server, this may be 143. For the outgoing server, this may be 25. If port 143 or 25 does not work, you can easily find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts.

Now that we have the information ready, let’s set up the email account on your Android phone!
1) Go to Settings

2) Tap on Accounts

3) Then select Add Account

4) Choose Email

5) Enter the email address you are adding and the password

6) Uncheck the Automatically configure account box

7) Tap Next

8 ) Select General Settings

9) For Account name, enter the desired name for this account. For Real name, enter your real name. For Email address, enter your email address.

10) Select OK

11) Select Incoming Server

12) Tap where it says POP mail server and select IMAP mail server

13) Enter your connection details. For Server, enter your domain’s mail server. Most of the time, it is mail.YourDomain.com (ex: mail.Arvixe.com). If mail.YourDomain.com doesn’t work, you will find this information in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts. For Username, enter your email address. For Password, enter the correct password for the email address.

14) Tap Advanced settings

15) Make sure Use secure connection and Verify Certificate are unchecked

19) Select Outgoing Server

Note:
With the current settings in this tutorial, any emails that you send or receive will not be secure. This means that everything sent or received can be intercepted as clear text. This is due to the certificate naming conflict between your mail account and your domain. Because of the conflict, the phone would display an error and show a connection failure. However, when we chose to deselect the certificate validation in the settings, we were able to bypass this problem.
If you encounter an error, please double check that your information is entered properly, or that your server name and ports are correct. If you continue experiencing difficulties manually configuring your email account, feel free to leave a comment and ask for help!

With all the hype over iCloud, it’s easy to forget that there’s a limited amount of “local” storage for all your apps, photos, music, videos, and other data.

Once that happens, you’ll get an unwelcome error message the next time you make an App Store purchase: “Cannot Download: There is not enough available storage to download these items.”
Uh-oh.
If you worried that your iPhone (or iPod Touch, or iPad) is running out of room, don’t fret.
Not only is it easy to check how much storage you have left, you can also see what’s hogging all your storage space. Finally, you can clear more room in just a few swipes.
Here’s how…

• Tap the Settings icon on your iPhone (or iPad) home screen, then tap General, and finally Usage (it’s the third option from the top).
• Next, you’ll arrive at the Usage screen—and at the very top, you’ll see how much storage space is left on your iPhone, in gigabytes. After a few seconds, you’ll get a detailed list of the biggest storage hogs on your device, in descending order.
• See a jumbo-sized app that you could live without? Tap its name, then tap the red “Delete App” button. If you ever have a change of heart, you can re-download any free or purchased apps from the App Store.


You can delete specific apps and videos directly from the Usage screen.
• Photos and videos shot with the iPhone’s camera may also be among the biggest storage hogs on your iPhone, particularly if you rarely (or never) delete snapshots from the Camera Roll.
